“Destination Watertown: The Armenians of Hood Rubber” Documentary Screening

On Saturday, December 19th, at 1:30pm, the Library will be hosting a special event with local filmmaker Roger Hagopian.

Mr. Hagopian has recently finished a new film about the Hood Rubber Company, and the Armenian immigrants from Watertown who were employed there.

Founded in 1896 as a chemical research lab, the company soon moved on to production of shoes, boots, and tires. By 1920, one-fifth of the United State’s footware came from the Hood Rubber Company.

Destination Watertown: The Armenians of Hood Rubber includes interviews with former company employees and Hood family descendants. It focuses on working conditions and is bound to be an impressive look into the lives of Watertown residents.

After the screening, Mr. Hagopian will be available to discuss the film with the audience. Be sure to stop by for this truly remarkable film.Hood Rubber Company

  2. Wish I could be there. Some of my relatives worked there~~~Will it be available on DVD?

    • Thanks for your comment! I can find out this afternoon if there will be a dvd and let you know!

    • There will be a dvd. If you contact the library, we can put you in touch with Mr. Hagopian, who has them!

      • Helo
I’am from Germany, can i order this DVD?

        Best Wishes

  3. Is there a way or any website that I could get Hood Rubber Employee Names or old photos from Early 1952 (Jan through Aug)

  4. I had exactly that question about the old photos and also whether it might be available for download or purchase online, rather than in dvd form.

    • I know that there is a DVD version, but as far as a downloadable one, I’ve not heard anything, and am assuming there’s not going to be one.

For the photos, it would be a matter of finding out where the photos are kept (if they’re in an archive).

If you call or email the library, we can put you in touch with Mr. Hagopian, who, I sure, would know the answer.

      • Thanks! Get to it soon.

  5. Thanks,
I have family that worked there all through 1952 thought I might get lucky and see a Picture of them or find their name somewhere in there…….

  6. Hi Roger, I am the great granddaughter. Would love to see your documentary. VeeVee Scott

  7. Just wanted to say that my husband, Charlie Foley, worked at Hood Rubber from 1940 to 1970. His department number was 732. We tried to get information from the town hall in Watertown, but the people at the dest never heard of the place. Maybe they were too young. I would love a CD and a copy of the Destination Watertown.
